I woke up today and my thumb felt a bit better. As you can see from the photos it doesn't look better. The good looking thumb photos are from my left hand which is doing quite well.
Here we go on day 5 of the thumb incident. Yesterday was painful at work and I decided no pain killers to see how it went bad call. I got some great sleep last nite and looking forward to walking Ruby at the beach. Todays morning pain level is low but as you can tell by the photo the swelling is still there. Right at the area where the nail goes below the skin is so tight it feels like it is going to pop.
I Woke up feeling better today but the pain is kicking in due to swelling. Check out the great photos and the nice vent hole burnt into the nail. This nice accident has nixed my surfing this Thanksgiving weekend but also allowed me to write this blog on the progress of a smashed thumb. Let's see what becomes of it.
Due to the intense pain and lack of sleep on Friday nite I didn't shoot a photo of how my thumb looked on Saturday morning. You can refer back to the first thumb photo since it looked pretty much like that. The pain was intense enough that I took my wifes advice and decided to go to to Kaiser for some medical treatment. The xray showed no broken bones but I dig get a uggghhh! from the nurse when she looked at it. The Dr. did a nice hole in my fingernail to relieve the pressure but it sure did hurt all day. Going to sleep was a pain but I woke up feeling much better.
As you noticed from my last post you can feel the impending pain. Just imagine your thumb turned sideways to the closing gap of the garage door panels. There was a slight delay as I slammed the door down to the floor before I noticed the intense pain shooting from my hand. I did a check reality check and noticed to tip of my thumb had disappeared into the garage door! You would not believe how quickly I reacted and actually didn't yank my thumb out (probably would've lost my thumb) but reversed the direction of the door and was able to save my opposable digit.
You have seen what led up to the accident so here is how it really happens. As I grabbed the garage door handle with my left hand I placed my right hand onto the garage door to assist the descent of the door. Notice how my thumb is beginning to enter into the gap between the garage door panels. Can you begin to feel the pain?!
So after seeing that fine photo of my abused thumb you are wondering how it happened. Let me show you a recreation of how it happened. What went on is that we had cleared out the garage as you can see in the latest photo. Trust me, the garage was completely filled and the only way to go into the garage was by walking along the rack/shelves on the right side.
It all started with a request from my wife Cara to clear out our garage so she can park her Prius. Here is the ominous garage which shall now been known as the thumb killer.
